Ellis Johns, MD, graduated from Duke University’s school of medicine and is a board-certified family practitioner who does everything from obstetrics to end-of-life care. Additionally, Dr. Johns has worked as a health IT software engineer and data scientist for health systems such as Duke, Inova, and Valley Health. He has built applications for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, CCRi (now General Atomics) and North Carolina Medicaid Services (a.k.a. CCNC). He has more than 20 years of Python and .Net application development experience.

While his doctorate is in medicine, he also has degrees in chemical engineering (UMCP) and computer/information science (UNC). Dr. Johns trained as an IRTA fellow in the NIH’s National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, Duke Medicine’s Informatics Division (NLM), and Epic’s Physician Builder Analytics Program.

Dr. Johns is board-certified in Family Medicine and Medical Informatics. His special interests are sports medicine, IoT home automation, analytics and data science, cycling, 3D printing, and Sawyering. He is the proud father of four energy-filled children.
