J. William “Bill” Kerns, MD was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia.

Dr. Kerns and his wife, Christine, a nurse, were considering working in needy southwestern areas of the YS, but found that the need was significant in small-town Virginia as well. So, with one secretary and a line of credit, they started the practice in 1978. It has never stopped being busy and changing, with Dr. Westfall and then other fine physicians and Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants joining the practice, resurrecting Family Medicine in Warren County.

Dr. Kerns enjoys all aspects of Family Medicine, particularly preventive care, cholesterol management, heart diseases, hypertension, and dementia prevention.

He and Christine have two grown children, Meghan and Kate, two granddaughters (Tallulah Femke Lake and Paloma Jolene Lake), and one rescue dog, Nym. Besides just enjoying living out in the county of Warren, walking the dogs, snorkeling (a trip to blue water regularly!), Dr. Kerns enjoys live music locally, in DC and NYC, and good spirits.

He graduated from Yale University with a BS in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry. He then attended medical school at the University of Virginia. Afterward, he completed his Family Medicine residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School.
